Corpal punishment in schools?

What do you think of this?


Me personally, I went to a catholic elemantary and middle school (not hs) and it a was very pro-corpal punishment, pro-spanking place. We were spanked and hit for every minor infraction. Our rules were ridiculous. I remember one time my shoes had a scruff on them and I got 12 bare bottom spankings! After age 12, we were to be hit with a cane, not spanked. In 8th grade, I was caught cheating on a test and let me tell you, I got 40 whips with the cane on my bare bottom. I couldn%26#039;t sit for days.


However, it did teach me a lesson. I think it%26#039;s okay to spank, but not to when the child%26#039;s bottom is bright red or even bleeding (like the teachers did in my school!)


What is your opinion about corpal punishment in schools? What about at home?

When I was a kid in Texas (early 80%26#039;s) I got paddled at school, never bare bottom, and never more than 5 swats. Personally I think spanking in school is a good thing but I think your school may have been over the top even by my standards. As for 40 wackes for cheating I would have looked forward to that compared to what my parents would have done to me when they found out.





I have a 3 year old and she gets swats to the hand right now as well as time outs. Spanking is reserved as a last resort or for BIG screw ups. Cheating on a test.....boy would she have it coming.
Reply:Wow. I%26#039;m surprised schools would allow something like that. It%26#039;s deffinetely not right for get 40 whips from a cane. What about like 2 over a clothed bottom and a detention? I think there shouldn%26#039;t be spanking allowed in schools. I think it%26#039;s ridiculous. Detention and other policies should be strictly enforced, but deffinetely not spanking.


At home, it is okay if you are spanking the child on a clothed bottom, with an open hand only. And it%26#039;s not because the parent is angry. Depending on the kind of behavior they were demonstrating, they could get anywhere from 2-14 swats
Reply:Sad to hear you took that kind of abuse but even sadder to see that you think it is all right, spanking kids in schools might had been ok in those days but it is illegal now, I don%26#039;t make the laws, but I think physical punishment should be given at home and it must be the very last resort for discipline a kid. When I see these kind of things happening in Catholic schools I%26#039;m glad I%26#039;m not a catholic.
Reply:First of all bare bottom spankings in school???!!!! WTF??!!! Anyways I don%26#039;t think schools should use corporal punishment. Spanking at home, as long as it%26#039;s not bare bottom(why does someone wanna see their kid%26#039;s bare butt anyway) and is not leaving any marks is fine in my opinion if the kid is being really bad.
Reply:omg! that%26#039;s terrible!!! at home i was hit a lot, me and my brother. we remember it still and hated it. there was even an incident last saturday.......it was bad.


hitting only makes children fear their parents...which is what happened to me and my brother.


so people%26#039;s butts actually would start bleeding??!! omg! that%26#039;s horrible!


so corpal punishment in schools is terrible! some kids deal with it at home and they don%26#039;t need it at school! school is a place to learn, not be disciplined!!!

If I ever got sent to a catholic school and a nun came at me with a ruler, I%26#039;d pull out a meter stick and be all like %26quot;Oh, you wanna go? It%26#039;s on! I%26#039;m about to go Metric on your a.s.s!%26quot; and whap her upside the head.

The most we get is a detention and the occasional shouting from teachers lol...I don%26#039;t really agree with spanking unless the child is being VERY badly behaved...my mum has managed to discipline me verbally. :)

Reply:I think corporal punishment is okay at home, but not at school. At school, many times it becomes abuse like they did to you. A spanking should leave a child%26#039;s bottom sort of red, but not bleeding!!!

Reply:I know what you mean my parents grew up in a culture of corporal punishment(parents from another country), though it works at a young age for example at 7 years old let say you steal from someone , they tell the teacher . Teacher hits you a bit in front of all your classmates. Then your parents hear about it.





It even gets worse by middle school. Then by highschool you probably would of seen it so much or had it done to you so much you wouldn%26#039;t even dare of do something against the rules.





Though I agree its good at schools just to teach children and students as long as they don%26#039;t get to in to it and just keep hitting the child for the fun of it or etc etc.





Do I think it should be in homes? lol YES as long as you do it out of love or teach them a lesson its good. Its only bad like lets say your father gets mad, he say come here son - then a slap to the face for no good reason when the son has done nothing wrong.





Besides that sometimes you just have to hit the child or either grow them up well. You can%26#039;t always take something away from a child .For ex saying don%26#039;t go outside when I am not home. Child does it you take away allowance,does it again take away ds,then does it again take away computer time,then it becomes just a time period where you keep taking items away from the child and the child keeps finding substitutes.
